Brymo has released his third album ‘Merchant, Dealers and Slaves‘.
The recording artiste made the 11-track LP available on iTunes Music Store today October 20, 2013 for the price of $9.99 (approximately N1,600) per download.
Despite facing legal and contractual issues with former record label Chocolate City, Brymo has gone on to release his new album, less than a year after he dropped his Choc City debut ‘#TheSonOfaKapent
In August 2013, Spinlet announced a distribution deal with Brymo,
disclosing they would handle the digital distribution of the then
upcoming album but two months later, NET has discovered the deal was
thrown out of the window.
NET investigations reveal that as soon
as the deal was announced, Chocolate City contacted Spinlet and made
them aware of a subsisting contract between the label and Brymo.
An inside source in Brymo’s camp
explains that after signing with Spinlet, the digital distribution
company came back to them explaining that they could only go ahead with
the deal if they (Brymo’s team) released the album under Chocolate
City. An insider at Spinlet tells us they where not ready to get into
any legal tussle between artiste and label.
‘Who does that? We signed a deal then you come back saying something else, we just pulled out and never called them back‘, an insider in Brymo’s camp tells NET.
We are told Spinlet were to handle online promotion for the album starting with the premiere of the album’s lead single ‘Down‘
but not only did they discontinue promo, they deleted the previous
tweets, photos (see picture below) announcing the deal from their
official Twitter page.
Interestingly Brymo released his last album ‘#TheSonOfaKapenta‘ in November 2012
under Chocolate City through the same Spinlet digital platform – a
marketing plan which music critics faulted with Brymo complaining
bitterly over the promotion. Unlike previous album releases under the
label, there was no album release party for Brymo.
What does this new move imply? Chocolate
City haven’t responded to our e-mails concerning but as stated in
previous correspondence, they are willing to go to the ends of the earth
to make sure they get justice.
When contacted, Brymo’s manager and CEO of The Bail Music Company Lanre Lawal was more interested in the album’s release. ‘The hard copies will be hitting the streets this week, please get a copy, it’s a great body of work‘, Lawal told NET over the phone. He however remained silent on who will be marketing the album.
