When the legendary talk show host and media icon hits a major milestone in January by turning 60, she is will be celebrating with a massive party and the planning is already underway.
As part of the preparations, she will be selling items from three of her rooms to clear out and make some physical and emotional room for the next decade of her life.
A preview of the items she is selling has been posted online in advance of the November 2 auction, and it is safe to say that the 574 items are no longer her favorite things.
From antique rugs and candelabras to electric bikes and pictures of her with stars like Michael Jordan, the collection being sold throughKaminski Auctions is eclectic and will benefit her education foundation in South Africa.
The clean out will help make space for the massive party that she will be planning for her January 29th birthday.
Hundreds of construction workers are expected to be helping her refurbish her Montecito, California mansion that she bought for $85million ten years ago.
It is there where she is expected to host the party and she will be documenting the three-month planning process on her cable channel and magazine.
Those months will feature ‘the boldest, wildest party-planning madness since the royal wedding. And unlike those eastern European rulers, she will not have to pay superstars to perform at her birthday party- they’re all friends of hers. But there will be expense,’ an unnamed producer told The London Times.
Among those expected performers include Beyonce and Tina Turner, whose own wedding party Oprah attended in Switzerland earlier this year.
The costs of the event will clearly not be tallied until the last champagne cork is popped, but an associate said that the party and the home renovations are just part of a ‘$100m plan to start a new decade in a fresh new place’.
While promoting her recent return to the big screen in The Butler, Oprah spoke about her unexpected hesitation at turning 60.
‘You know, it’s the only age I’ve ever been that I had a hiccup about ’cause 60 is 60,’ she told Al Roker on The Today Show.
‘I don’t think it’s the new 30, Al.’
That round of press also gave the first glimpse of her party plans.
‘I’m going to have the biggest blow out party I can dream of,’ she told Charlie Gibson on CBS.
‘You know all these years I’ve had parties for other people celebrating legends, celebrating other people. I think I’m going to do one for myself.’
