Ministerial Reshuffle: Jonathan May Sack Oduah, Wike, Orubebe

Only few ministers will withstand the upcoming cabinet reshuffle and keep their seats. Thin information has been gathered byDaily Post.

The ministers who are likely to keep their positions are Diezani Alison-Madueke, Minister of Petroleum Resources; Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance; Dr Akinwumi Adesina, Agriculture Minister; and Labaran Maku, Minister of Information.

The list of those who may lose their seats includes Nyesom Wike, Minister of State for Education; Stella Oduah, Aviation Minister; Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, Minister of State; Prof.
Chinedu Osita Nebo, Minister for Power; Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs; and Hajia Zainab Maina, Federal Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, among others.

Earlier, on January 9, President Goodluck Jonathan announced that the list of nominees to fill the vacant ministerial positions would be forwarded to the Senate on Tuesday (tomorrow).

The candidates are meant to fill the 12 vacancies created when some ministers were dropped in a minorcabinet shake-up about seven months ago.

A source toldLeadershipthat the decision for a cabinet reshuffle was the reason for the delay in naming replacements for the sacked ministers and the three vacancies occasioned by the dropping of Mohammed Haliru Bello as Minister of Defence, Inuwa Abdulkadir as Minister of Youth Development, and the resignation of Dr. Ali Pate as Minister of State for Health.

"President Jonathan would not want to go to the Senate in piecemeal. What it means is that he would want to submit a holistic list of nominees that will serve the tenure with him in 2015 to the Senate," said the source.

"The issue is beyond who is close to the president and who is not; what is most important is that the man has made up his mind to make changes not only at the level of the ministers but along all strata of the presidency, including Special Advisers, assistants and others," the source added.
